Biography

Dr Colin G. Walsh is Associate Professor of Biomedical Informatics, Medicine and Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He is a practising internist and clinical informatician whose research focuses on predictive analytics for vulnerable populations, clinical workflow and point-of-care decision support. He joined Vanderbilt in early 2015 after undergraduate training in mechanical engineering at Princeton University, medical school at the University of Chicago, residency and chief residency in internal medicine at Columbia University Medical Center, and fellowship training in biomedical informatics at Columbia. As founder and principal investigator of the Walsh Lab, he develops clinically grounded predictive models from structured and unstructured health data, with projects spanning suicide-risk prediction, mental-health applications of machine learning and natural language processing, value-based healthcare, utilization optimization, Choosing Wisely and scalable phenotyping. He was inducted as a Fellow of AMIA in 2021, elected to the American College of Medical Informatics in 2022, and elected to the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics in the 2023 class. His current programme includes predictive decision support to enable prevention, population-health informatics and algorithmovigilance for safe monitoring of healthcare AI systems.
