Biography
Professor Giovanni Sartor is Full Professor of Philosophy of Law in the Department of Legal Studies at the University of Bologna, and Part-Time Professor and Adviser at the Centre for a Digital Society of the European University Institute. He graduated in law with honours from the University of Bologna and holds a PhD in Legal Sciences from the European University Institute. His scholarship covers legal philosophy and legal informatics, computer and data law, artificial intelligence and law, knowledge representation, digital regulation and the legal implications of autonomous systems. Earlier in his career he served at the Court of Justice of the European Union, at the Italian National Research Council and at Queen's University Belfast, and he has held the Presidency of the International Association for Artificial Intelligence and Law. His recent work addresses the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, large language models, data governance and the interaction between technical systems and legal reasoning.
