Biography

Dr Laure Wynants is Associate Professor of Epidemiology at Maastricht University and Visiting Professor at the Leuven Unit for Health Technology Assessment, KU Leuven. Her research is devoted to the development, validation and critical appraisal of clinical prediction models and artificial-intelligence tools, with sustained attention to reliability, uncertainty, risk of bias and clinical usefulness. In 2024 she was awarded an NWO Vidi grant for the five-year programme "AI in Healthcare: How Confident Are We?", which seeks to improve the way uncertainty and the value of additional evidence are quantified before predictive AI is adopted in clinical practice. She supervises a group of doctoral researchers and teaches clinical epidemiology and prediction research. She is co-author of the forthcoming Maastricht University Press volume Improving Health Care with Clinical Prediction Models: From Idea to Impact (2026), which addresses the development, evaluation, implementation and impact assessment of prediction-model-based innovations.
