Biography

Professor Niels Peek is Professor of Data Science and Healthcare Improvement at The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute and the Department of Public Health and Primary Care of the University of Cambridge. He leads research that develops and evaluates data-driven approaches to improving care, including prediction models, clinical decision support, health-data science and informatics methods for the design and assessment of improvement interventions. Originally trained in computer science and artificial intelligence, he previously held senior health-informatics positions at the University of Manchester and led major connected-health and data-science programmes in Greater Manchester. He has an extensive scientific publication record. He is a past President of the Society for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, an elected Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics and of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics, and serves in editorial roles for several leading health-informatics journals.
