Biography

Professor Stefan Lorenz Sorgner is Associate Professor of Philosophy in the Department of History and Humanities at John Cabot University in Rome, where he has taught since 2016. He is Director and Co-founder of the Beyond Humanism Network, a Fellow of the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies, and a Research Fellow at the Ewha Institute for the Humanities in Seoul, and he is founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Posthuman Studies, published by Penn State University Press. He read philosophy at King's College London (BA, 1997) and at Durham University (MA, 1998), studied at the University of Giessen and was awarded a Dr phil by Friedrich Schiller University Jena in 2009. His scholarship addresses transhumanism, posthumanism, Nietzschean philosophy and the ethical and cultural implications of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, digital data and human enhancement. His books include On Transhumanism, We Have Always Been Cyborgs and Philosophy of Posthuman Art. His 2026 monograph, Euro-Transhumanism, develops a distinctly European approach to technological change, centred on pluralism, personal autonomy and diverse forms of human flourishing.
