Biography

Professor Victor Maojo is a physician and computer scientist, Full Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, where he directs the Biomedical Informatics Group. He read medicine at the University of Oviedo, undertook postgraduate work in artificial intelligence and knowledge engineering at UPM, and completed a PhD in computer science. He has held visiting, consulting and research positions at Georgia Tech and at the Harvard–MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. His research addresses medical expert systems, clinical guidelines, biomedical ontologies, clinico-genomic data integration, machine learning in medicine and nanoinformatics, with an extensive publication record and leadership of numerous national and international research projects. He was elected a Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics in 2011, became a founding member of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics in 2017, and was elected a Corresponding Member of the Royal National Academy of Medicine of Spain in 2022.
